‘Line of Duty’ cop faces jail after admitting four charges of beating a woman
A “LINE of Duty” cop faces jail after he admitted four charges of hitting a woman.
Det Sgt Paul Whitehurst, 53, worked for a department aimed at rooting out corrupt cops at Warwickshire Police.
But he was arrested last December after an incident in Nantwich, Cheshire, and later charged with four counts of assault by beating.
He had denied the accusations and was due to face trial at Chester crown court but changed his pleas to guilty.
Adjourning the hearing for pre-sentence reports, judge Recorder Michael Hayton KC was told a further charge of sexual assault would lie on file.
All the charges involve the same woman, who cannot be named for legal reasons.
The officer, who is suspended from duty, is to be sentenced on July 29.
