EURO judges could overrule British courts if Labour caves to Brussels’ demands, Kemi Badenoch warned yesterday.

The shadow business secretary said a Labour government would seek a “pragmatic, good-faith relationship” with the EU and negotiate a new deal on food standards — boosting agriculture exports by as much as a fifth.

It comes after former EU negotiator Michel Barnier also declared the bloc should lure Labour into accepting the return of freedom of movement in exchange for any deal.

Asked if he would accept the Luxembourg-based ECJ being able to overturn British court decisions, Mr Reynolds told the Bloomberg debate: “I’m not going to give away our negotiating hand entirely”.

“There will still be costs, because we’re not going to talk about going back into a customs union.”

Ms Badenoch blasted Labour’s refusal to draw a red line over the court, warning the party would squander even more of Britain’s Brexit freedoms if elected next week.

The business secretary asked of Labour’s food deal plan: “What would they have to give up to get that?

“Michel Barnier was in the papers yesterday talking about freedom of movement.

“We cannot allow any kind of oversight from the European Court of Justice, and you can’t keep that in your back pocket

“This is something you need to be honest about with the British people.”

Meanwhile, Reform leader Nigel Farage said Labour would cave to EU “lunacy” and would be “more incompetent than the Conservatives have been.”

Farage went on: “Michel Barnier has let the cat out of the bag overnight.

“He said that if Keir Starmer wants to get closer to the European Union, the cost is he must re-open free movement.

“This Labour government will get into trouble very, very quickly.”

Ms Badenoch, tipped as a future Tory leader, also warned business buffs Labour’s economic plans were “pie in the sky” ideas that would trigger higher taxes.

She went on: “You should be terrified of surrendering your business, the economy, and tax to Labour.

“The fact they are fishing in this empty barrel for solutions shows Labour have no ideas.”

Labour sources told The Sun last night that the party would not sign any EU deal that made Britain a “rule taker”.
