Worker crushed to death by scissor lift outside Kravis Center
A 1,500-pound scissor lift fell Monday morning on a contractor outside the Kravis Center in downtown West Palm Beach, killing the 59-year-old man.
The incident happened just after 9 a.m. at 701 Okeechobee Blvd. when the man was loading the heavy machinery onto a flatbed truck and it collapsed on top of him, according to West Palm Beach Police.
The responding officer and workers managed to lift the heavy equipment off of the man. The county medical examiner pronounced the man dead at the scene outside the north side of the artist’s entrance.
The man’s name has not been released, but West Palm Beach Police said he lived in Martin County.
Police said he worked for the company moving the scissor lift, not for the Raymond F. Kravis Center for the Performing Arts.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) responded to the scene to investigate.
