David Duchovny tells The View he once had to explain a sexual term to King Charles

For those who believe that the British royals are just like everyday citizens, actor and writer David Duchovny has a different story about an encounter he had with now-King Charles.

The "X-Files" and "Californication" star appeared on "The View" on Monday to discuss his book "Bucky F---ing Dent," which has now been made into a film.

"It's the kind of wry, tragicomic heartbreak that courses through writer-director David Duchovny’s incredibly generous, very funny adaptation of his own novel," said a 2023 Tribeca Film Festival post.

The interview came after a segment in which "The View's" co-hosts watched footage of King Charles' son, Prince William, and his children dancing along at a Taylor Swift concert. They cheered on the royals.

"Look how much fun he's having!" Sunny Hostin exclaimed. "Pure, unadulterated joy."

Ana Navarro remembered the late Princess Diana taking William and Harry to concerts.

But it was when the group welcomed Duchovny that the tea was spilled.

"I hear you were once at a concert with [King] Charles in the '90s. Are those hand-me-down moves?" Sara Haines asked Duchovny about William.

Duchovny said that he was at the Princess Trust Concert and they were listening to the All Saints song "Bootie Call."

"And Charles was kind of looking perplexed, and he was, like, 'Bootie call?' And I said, 'I can explain it to you if you would like.' You know, and said, it's when a man or woman calls another man or woman usually late at night, for the purpose of spending time and then leaving. And he is, like, 'Well, I've learned something today.'"

Ana Navarro speculated Charles "knew it already."

The group went on to discuss Duchovny's podcast, where he talks about failure and that as a country, which prompted the women to mention former President Donald Trump.
