Man struck by Kings Island roller coaster dies

CINCINNATI (WCMH) – The man who was struck by a roller coaster at speeds approaching 70 mph at an Ohio amusement park has died.

According to the Hamilton County Coroner’s Office, 38-year-old Arntanaro Nelson died Friday at the UC Medical Center, NBC affiliate WLWT reported.

Mason police identified Nelson, of Wilmington, as the man who suffered “massive head trauma” when he entered a restricted and fenced in area in search of his keys at the Banshee roller coaster at Kings Island amusement park in Mason, Ohio.

The incident occurred around 8 p.m. on June 19 when authorities responded to reports of a person lying down on the ground inside a restricted area at the Banshee ride. Nelson was taken to UC West Chester hospital, and then flown by helicopter to UC Medical Center.

WLWT stated that Nelson suffered “massive head trauma” after being struck by the roller coaster, which tops out at 68 MPH. He remained in critical condition before being pronounced dead two days later.
