Report: Tottenham are ‘well placed’ to sign Brazilian defender
Tottenham are seeking further enforcements at right-back in a bid to offer Pedro Porro some competition for his role as Emerson Royal continues to be touted with a move away from the club.
Reports suggest Vanderson is Spurs’ desired replacement for Emerson Royal
Popular journalist, Fabrizio Romano, revealed on social media platform X a week ago that Tottenham were ‘showing interest’ in AS Monaco’s Vanderson with the Brazilian being ‘one of the options’ if his compatriot, Emerson Royal departs the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this summer.
Royal has been strongly linked with a move to AC Milan for a number of weeks now with reports that The Rossoneri are, like Tottenham, looking to sign a new right-back with Emerson being ‘high on their list’. (Fabrizio Romano).
La Gazzetta Dello Sport have today claimed that Emerson ‘evidently considers Milan superior to Tottenham’, stating that the former Barcelona player who featured 22 times in the Premier League last season (transfermarkt) has ‘reached an agreement in principle for over the contract he would sign’.

23-year-old right-back, Vanderson, is reportedly wanted by both Napoli & Tottenham Hotspur with Italian newspaper, Corriere Del Mezzoiorno, claiming in their print edition on Sunday (23/6/24) that the 2022/23 Serie A champions are expected to ‘pull out’ the race for now with Spurs having ‘priced the player’.
Monaco are rumoured to be demanding in the region of €30m (£25.4m) for Vanderson who has featured 20 times for them this season. The Italian newspaper is now stating that an ‘auction is looming’ with Tottenham seemingly emerging as the favourites for Vanderson’s signature.
Vanderson joined Ligue 1 side Monaco in January of 2022 for around €11 million. Since joining the French outfit Vanderson has been capped by Brazil as well as netting on six occasions across his eighty-four appearances for the club (transfermarkt).
Spurs have now reportedly ‘priced the player’ with the Italian report reflecting a pessimistic attitude to the likeliness of the player joining Napoli.

It has become apparent for some time now that despite some improvement upon his poor performances when he first joined the club, Emerson doesn’t possess the skill set that is suitable for Postecoglou’s system, especially as the Australian looks to improve upon his team’s 5th place finish last season.
Vanderson is younger than Emerson and has consistent Ligue 1 experience as well as Champions League appearances which suggests the Monaco man wouldn’t be as big a risk as someone like Djed Spence was.
If Tottenham want to compete on all four fronts next season then strength in depth will be key, Vanderson can hopefully be an improvement upon Emerson and offer exactly that.
