Linguistic diversity on display in Lok Sabha as new members take oath in Sanskrit, Hindi, Dogri, Odia
Newly-elected MPs in the Lok Sabha took oaths in diverse languages such as Sanskrit, Hindi, Dogri, Bengali, Assamese, and Odia, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Hindi. There were "Jai Shri Ram" chants during the process. Amid controversies over exams, Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan took his oath in Odia. Kerala's first BJP MP, Suresh Gopi, invoked gods in Malayalam. Various other ministers took oaths in languages including Bengali, Marathi, Telugu, and Kannada.
