Clippers, Lakers interested in Chris Paul

0

I keep hearing that Chris Paul, if he actually makes to free agency at some point, would draw interest from the Clippers as well as the Lakers. Paul’s desire to play as close to his L.A.-based family as possible is well-known, but I’m told interest in bringing him to the Lakers might not be unanimous within the organization despite Paul’s well-chronicled friendship with LeBron James.

If Paul George decides to opt into the final year of his deal to facilitate a trade away from LAC, the blueprints will have been 1) CP3 opting in with LAC to get to Houston and 2) James Harden opting in with Philly to get to LAC.

More on this storyline

The Warriors have outwardly maintained their desire to bring Thompson back at the right price and in the right role, per league sources, but have viewed his situation as business to sort through after various other roster-building avenues have been explored. They’ve been actively searching for paths to larger-scale upgrades, using Chris Paul’s non-guaranteed $30 million contract as a flexible tool. There’s been talk with Paul about possibly pushing that guarantee date back from June 28 into July, if necessary, per league sources, which would only be telling Thompson to wait longer. -via New York Times / June 22, 2024
In the 186th playoff game of his NBA career, Al Horford won his first NBA championship. The Celtics capturing the 2024 title took Horford off an ignominious list, as Boston coming up short this year would have almost certainly (eventually) vaulted him past Karl Malone (193) for most career playoff games without a championship. After the game, Horford was understandably excited to finally get his first ring, 17 years into his NBA career: But with Horford winning a championship, James Harden ended up taking a crown no player wants: His 166 career playoff games without a ring is now not just fourth all-time in NBA history, but the most of any active NBA player. Per StatMuse, the next closest is… his former Rockets teammate Chris Paul, with 149. -via SB Nation / June 18, 2024
David Hardisty: Trevor Ariza says the #Rockets would have knocked off Steph Curry, Kevin Durant and the Warriors in 2018 and gone on to win it all with a healthy Chris Paul. “For sure. I mean, yeah… I’m confident that we were going to win if CP was healthy.” Via @TidalLeague -via Twitter / June 11, 2024
