Mariners Game #79 Preview: 6/22/24 Mariners at Marlins
Did the Mariners forget to take their talent with them to South Beach?
Public Servais Announcement
If you’re reading this with enough time to get there, Lookout Landing dot com is hosting a watch party for this afternoon’s game over at Growler Guys on Lake City Way. All the details are here, in this post that’s pinned right below this one on the front page. It’s kid- and dog-friendly! Basically everyone from the site will be there (which is why you’re stuck with me today). And they’re raffling off some great stuff!
TOMORROW! Come get this swag, meet some fellow Mariners fans, and have some delicious beers in North Seattle's outdoor living room at Growler Guys! https://t.co/lPPgKoWrGs pic.twitter.com/idvOf9TRdu

Game Preview
For the rest of you, let me say this: If you’d told me on March 30th, that on June 22nd, the Mariners would have a seven-game lead in the division, I would have said “hell yeah!” And yet, if you’d told me on Wednesday morning that entering today, the Mariners would have a seven-game lead in the division, I would have said, “what the hell?” I’m trying to both keep that broader perspective while also allowing myself to feel upset about how these last few days have unfolded. At least we get Logan Gilbert today, pitching in his home state. He’ll face off against TBA after Jesus Luzardo was scratched with an injury. The Marlins eventually A’ed that it would be Shaun Anderson, or Bigg Shaun (to Gs) as he apparently likes to be called.
Lineups
Notably, Julio gets a day off. And one downstream consequence is that atypically, rather than run the platoon advantages, the Mariners will bat a mix of lefties and righties today. But the switch-hitting mainstay, Cal Raleigh, bats cleanup. See below for why that might be fortuitous.
