Antigua: India played their second match of the Super 8 stage against Bangladesh at the Sir Vivian Richards stadium in Antigua. Bangladesh won the toss and invited India to bat first.

Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli gave India an explosive start as the opening pair finally seemed to flourish in the tournament. However, after hitting some good shots Rohit lost his wicket to the experienced Shakib Al Hasan leaving India at 39/1. Next up came Rishabh Pant who continued his hard-hitting style and started smashing the Bangladesh bowlers.

Kohli finally was looking in a better touch and was also looking set to reach his first half-century of the tournament, however, Tanzim Hasan dismissed him with a peach of a delivery at 37. Tanzim also took the important wicket of Suryakumar Yadav just 2 balls later to make it a massively successful over for the Tigers.

Pant formed a good partnership with Shivam Dube to put India’s innings back on track. However, Pant lost his wicket to Rishad Hossain at 36 in the 12th over. Then came Hardik Pandya whose brilliant partnership with Dube took India to 161/5 in 17.2 overs before Dube was dismissed in the 18th over.

In the final overs, Pandya played a brilliant knock and smashed his first half-century of the tournament to carry India to a mammoth total of 196/5 in 20 overs setting up a huge target of 197 for Bangladesh to achieve.
