On Camera: Bareilly Turns Into Real-Life ‘Mirzapur’ As Public Shootout Erupts Between Rival Gangs Over Land Dispute
Bareilly Shootout: In scenes eerily mirroring a shootout between rival gangs in the reel-life town of ‘Mirzapur’, a gunfight erupted between two groups, reportedly over a land dispute, in the middle of a busy road in Bareilly district of Uttar Pradesh.
Videos of the shocking incident which have gone viral on social media showed the rival groups opening fire at each other in the middle of the road, triggering panic among passersby who are seen running for their lives.

The shootout, which resembled scenes straight out of popular Amazon Prime gangster drama ‘Mirzapur’ and the critically-acclaimed ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’ film, was witnessed Saturday. near an eatery, Bajrang Dhaba, located on the Pilibhit bypass road in Bareilly’s Izzatnagar area, reports said.

A media report said the incident took place when a local builder, Rajiv Rana, along with his associates, arrived at Shankara Mahadeva Marbles on Pilibhit bypass road and started vandalising the shop using JCBs (earth movers).
Aditya Upadhyay, the marble shop owner, arrived at the scene and engaged in heated spat with Rana and his men, which escalated quickly and soon the two groups opened fire at each other as both Rana and Upadhyay called in ‘backup’, India Today reported.
As per the report, the site quickly turned into a battleground as more than 150 people arrived with guns and melee weapons and started firing at each other.
The brazen shootout continued for hours in broad daylight on the busy road before police arrived at the scene and detained Aditya Upadhyay and his son Aviral Upadhyay while others fled the spot.
Two JCB machines were also set afire during the gang war during several rounds were fired and one person was reportedly injured. An officer said a local resident was reportedly injured in the firing while he was strolling on the roof a nearby house.
Police said they have registered a case against those involved in the incident and efforts are underway to nab the accused who fled the scene.
‘Goondaism’ thriving under BJP: SP
Meanwhile, the opposition Samajwadi Party attacked the BJP government in Uttar Pradesh over the incident, stating that “goondaism” is thriving in the state under the saffron party’s rule.
“The morale of the criminals is high. In Bareilly, goons opened fire in broad daylight over land dispute. When will the Chief Minister rein in the mafias that are thriving with government blessings? The public is troubled by the unsafe environment of the state,” the Samajwadi Party wrote on X with a clip of the viral shootout.
7 cops suspended
Meanwhile, following the incident, seven policemen were suspended for negligence during the incident, a senior officer said.
Senior Superintendent of Police of Bareilly Ghule Sushil Chandrabhan said that seven policemen, including Station House Officer (SHO) of Izzatnagar Police Station Jaishankar Singh, Sub Inspector Rajiv Prakash, Head Constable Yogesh along with Constables Sunny Kumar, Vinod Kumar, Rajkumar and Ajay Tomar, have been suspended for negligence regarding the incident.
