Owl Checks Into Delhi’s Lodhi Hotel, Checked Out By Wildlife SOS
New Delhi: A barn owl (Tyto alba) found in distress on the grounds of Indian Accent Restaurant in Pragati Vihar, Delhi, has been successfully rescued by the Wildlife SOS Rapid Response Unit. The bird is currently under the NGO’s observation and will be released back into its natural habitat once it is deemed fit.
The vigilant hotel staff observed the barn owl lying on the premises of Indian Accent Restaurant in The Lodhi Hotel in Delhi’s Pragati Vihar area, unable to fly. Recognising the urgency of the situation, the rescue caller promptly contacted the Wildlife SOS emergency rescue helpline at +91-98719 63535.
Responding to the distress call, Wildlife SOS dispatched its experienced rescue staff to the location. The raptor was then transported to the Wildlife SOS rescue centre for a thorough medical examination. Upon initial assessment, the barn owl displayed signs of weakness and dehydration due to heat stroke. The dedicated veterinary team at Wildlife SOS administered Oral Rehydration Solution (ORS) to the owl and kept it in a cool place. To ensure the bird’s overall health and well-being, the raptor is under observation and will be released once deemed fit.
Pooja Sharma, Restaurant Manager, Indian Accent, said, “The prompt response from Wildlife SOS in rescuing the owl was remarkable. I deeply care about wildlife and was extremely concerned when I found the distressed bird on the restaurant premises.”
Kartick Satyanarayan, Co-founder & CEO, Wildlife SOS, said, “For birds of prey, such as barn owls, the ability to fly is essential for hunting and survival. Therefore, it is crucial that rescue cases like these are attended to promptly and efficiently. The promptness shown by the hotel staff and Wildlife SOS in this regard is commendable.”
