Kayaker dies after 'incident' with Ferry on Willamette River

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) -- A kayaker is dead following what authorities are calling an "incident" involving the Buena Vista Ferry in Polk County.

According to Polk County Fire District, just after 5:00 p.m., Thursday crews responded to a water rescue on the Willamette River where one person was found dead. However, exactly how they died is unclear.

Polk County Fire District 1 posted on Facebook, "one person was confirmed dead while kayaking near the ferry on the Willamette River."

Several agencies responded to the scene, including the Linn County dive team. The investigation is ongoing.
