Oklahoma man held in Turks & Caicos sentenced by judge

An Oklahoma man being held in Turks and Caicos for reportedly carrying ammunition in his luggage has been sentenced.

OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) - An Oklahoma man being held in Turks and Caicos for carrying ammunition in his luggage has been sentenced, officials say.

Ryan Watson, an Edmond resident, has been in Turks and Caicos since April after bullets were reportedly found in his luggage. His wife, Valerie Watson, was released in late April when her charges were dropped after being detained for 11 days. Ryan was granted bail on April 24, but still remains in Turks and Caicos.

On May 14, Governors Kevin Stitt, Josh Shapiro (D-PA) and Glenn Youngkin (R-VA) sent a letter to the Governor of Turks and Caicos asking for the release of three Americans being held on ammunition possession charges.

On Friday, June 21, officials say a judge has sentenced Ryan to 13 weeks imprisonment suspended for nine months and a $2,000 fine. He will be able to travel back to Oklahoma City once the fine is paid.
