Brazil keen to elect new CDB president

0

Brazil, the incoming chair of the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB), is keen for the institution to elect a new president following the controversial departure of Dr Hyginus “Gene” Leon.

The South American nation, represented by its governor on the CDB board, Secretary for International Affairs and Development Dr Renata Amaral, also wants the governors of the bank to “close the void that currently exists between us”.

Amaral put these issues on the table yesterday evening while stating that the Barbados-based CDB was “navigating a challenging period and it’s our responsibility to move forward”.

With Leon having resigned from his leadership of the bank in April, following a contentious period during which he was sent on administrative leave, Amaral said it was time to look to the future. (SC)
