Russian authorities have announced they have sent 21 tons of humanitarian aid to Afghanistan.

A Russian Emergencies Ministry plane left Moscow with 21 tons of food and basic necessities for Afghan citizens. This was done under the instructions of President Vladimir Putin, according to a statement by the Federal Agency for Commonwealth of Independent States Affairs, TASS news agency reported.

The agency noted that the aid was part of the People Together Through Ages international project.

The project reopened the air corridor between Russia and Afghanistan after 30 years. This has enabled consistent help for Afghans and the restoration of diplomatic relations.

This comes amid the forced deportation of Afghan refugees from Pakistan, Iran, and Turkey has created a dire humanitarian crisis. Many returnees face severe challenges due to a lack of food, shelter, and job opportunities.

The deported refugees are struggling to find basic necessities upon their return. The scarcity of resources exacerbates their already difficult situation.

International aid is crucial to support these returnees. Without adequate assistance, their plight continues to worsen amidst this ongoing crisis.
