Man charged with attempted murder in Thursday shooting on Evangeline Thruway

LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) -- A Lafayette man is charged with two counts of attempted murder after shooting at a vehicle driving on Evangeline Thruway early Thursday, authorities said.

Vincent Jones, 40, of Lafayette, is charged with two counts attempted first degree murder, two counts of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and one count each of possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number, possession of a firearm in the presence of drugs and possession of Schedule II narcotics.

Lafayette Police said they recieved a complaint that a person and his friend were stopped at a red light on the 1500 block of NE Evangeline Thruway at abouth 12:30 a.m. Thursday when another vehicle pulled up next to them. The driver of that vehicle allegedly told the victims that they had been following him and pointed a handgun at them.

The victims fled the scene and the suspect followed in his vehicle, firing multiple rounds at the victim’s vehicle, striking the vehicle twice, according to the complaint. The suspect’s vehicle was later located by LPD officers in the 200 block of Brenda Street with the Jones in the driver seat, authorities said.

Two firearms were recovered along with approximately 6.9g of suspected crystal methamphetamine, according to police.

Jones was arrested and booked into LPCC. Bond details were not released.
