Taylor Swift slammed by Chris Packham as Springwatch host urges her to make major change ahead of London gigs
SPRINGWATCH star Chris Packham has called for Taylor Swift to make a major change to her world-famous Eras tour ahead of her shows at Wembley.
The Cruel Summer singer will be starting her three-day residency at Wembley Stadium tonight, performing to 90,000 people a night at the sold out venue.
The star has been performing the three-hour set across the globe for the past year, causing environmentalist Chris some concern.
Appearing on Good Morning Britain today, Chris urged Taylor to make a change to her tour, specifically her travel habits, which sees her using a private jet to back and forth between countries.
“I’ve asked her to think about the future of all of her young fans,” he said. “She has an enormous capacity to communicate; a very powerful, intelligent young woman.
“She should be using that platform to be – and certainly not behaving as a rock star of yesteryear travelling around the world in a private jet.”
“I think that she’s got to show that legion of adoring young fans that she cares about their future,” she said.
“Maybe one day, I don’t know, Taylor might want children of her own. I’m sure that she wants a healthy planet for them to live on. And to do that we’ve got to change the way we use our fossil fuels.
“She could send a very symbolic gesture to millions of people by stopping using her private jet.”
Chris added that he has reached out to reps of Taylor requesting to meet her and get a video message.
He hoped she would show her support ahead of the RestoreNatureNow rally this weekend.
Chris noted she had not returned his request at the time of appearing on the show.
It’s believed Taylor flew 178,000 miles in her two jets across 2023 alone, with Just Stop Oil breaking into Essex Airfield yesterday to spray paint her two private jets orange, only to get the wrong ones.
While Taylor does use a private jet, her publicist confirmed to Associated Press ahead of the tour that she had purchased double the amount of carbon offsets of the tour in order to balance her usage.
Carbon offset initiatives, including tree-planting to absorb carbon dioxide from the air, are used to balance out the emissions caused from a carbon footprint.
