Nintendo fans can’t believe there’s a new Switch coming this year

NINTENDO has officially revealed the successor to the Switch in a surprising way.

In May 2024, Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa revealed in a tweet that a successor to the Nintendo Switch is in development.

The Switch successor, that fans have dubbed the Switch 2, will likely launch in 2025, and with not long to go until we upgrade our hardware, we thought that Nintendo would be slowing down production on the current Switch.

However, that seems to not be the case, as during the June Nintendo Direct, Nintendo revealed that a new Switch console would be coming out this year.

The Nintendo Switch Lite – Hyrule Edition – is a new version of the Switch Lite console launching alongside the upcoming Zelda game.

The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom will be released on September 26, 2024, which is the same time that the new Switch Lite console will launch.

This console is all gold with black buttons, similar to the colours on the Tears of the Kingdom Joy-Con.

On the back is the Hylian Crest signified by a different shiny gold finish, and there is a small Triforce symbol under the right stick.

The console does not come with Echoes of Wisdom pre-installed, instead you will have to purchase it separately.

Nintendo has been releasing a number of limited-edition Switch Lites in the lead up to the launch of the Switch 2.

Animal Crossing versions were released last year, and it seems Nintendo is hoping to sell as many consoles as possible before the next version is available.

This is common for a lot of gaming companies to do before the launch of the next generation.
