Brits are set to see highs of up to 30C next week

The Met Office is predicting highs of up to 30C as early as next week as summer seems to finally be arriving.

However, the heat does pose some issues for drivers, especially on long trips cooped up in the car.

One study from the US Center for Disease Control (CDC) suggests that just an hour in the sun on a 26C day can send the temperature in side the vehicle rocketing up to 50C.

Try sitting in that for a few hours and you’ll quickly find yourself in a bad way.

Fortunately, Ellie Dyer-Brown from WhoCanFixMyCar is on hand with a selection of cheap and cheerful tips to boost your AC this summer.

This is a great hack as long as you’ve got time to prepare

One of the lesser-known tricks makes use of nothing but a scrap of fabric you might find lying around the house and some water.

Simply take a cloth or flannel and run it under the cold tap for a few seconds.

Once it’s nice and damp, wring it out to stop any dripping and stick it on your dash so it covers the vents of your air con.

As anyone who’s been soaked through in a traditional British downpour can tell you, when the air passes through water, it starts to feel much colder.

The damp cloth can also help filter the air and catch pollen, which is particularly useful for hay fever sufferers at this time of year.

And a sealed ice pack works even better if you have one lying around in your freezer.

Ellie wrote: “This is a great hack as long as you’ve got time to prepare the ice or cloth before your journey.

“Holding an ice pack in front of your air vents and turning them up will make the air a lot cooler.”

However, as you might imagine, this does moisten the air as it passes through the cloth which, if left unattended, can lead to damp in the cabin.

Just make sure to remove the cloth when you leave the vehicle and give it a few minutes with the windows down to air out when you arrive at your destination.

It comes another expert revealed a three-step “pre-cooling” hack you can use to make your car colder for free.
