AN OPENING date has finally been revealed for a UK waterpark that will be welcoming guests again this summer.

The attraction had originally closed down after its previous owners went into administration in October 2023.

However, local authorities took over in December last year and have since found new operators.

Alpamare waterpark in Scarborough first opened its doors back in 2016 and cost £14million.

It has since been taken over by Flamingo Land, who run the theme park of the same name, about 30 miles away.

Their owner Gordon Gibb has described Alpamare as “an exciting new venture” ahead of its new scheduled opening date, at the end of July.

A specific day has yet to be announced, however local authorities have said that it will finally be up and running once again before the end of next month.

The park has two heated outdoor pools, one of which is an infinity pool, four slides and a wave machines among its offerings for visitors.

Its alpine theme can be seen throughout, with its slides inspired by downhill winter sports, with the Olympic Run, the Cresta Run, the Black Run and the Snow Storm offering different levels of excitement.

There’s also an alpine-themed spa, as well as a bar serving cocktails, a cafe and scenic gardens, with its website promising the “biggest, fastest and wettest” waterpark guests have ever visited.

It reads: “All the way from the Alps, Alpamare Scarborough is a waterpark like no other.

“If you love adventure, it’s time to experience the biggest, the fastest, the wettest, the warmest, the cleanest, the waviest, the newest, the funnest, the most unlike-any-waterpark-you’ve-seen before waterpark.”

Local authority members hope that once it’s opened, the park will provide a “positive impact” for Scarborough.

Speaking to the BBC, North Yorkshire Council’s assistant director for property services, Kerry Metcalfe, Said: “Work is ongoing at Alpamare and with Flamingo Land to get the water park ready for re-opening at the end of July.”

Shirley Smith, president of the Scarborough Hospitality Association, added: “Alpamare will have a really positive impact on local hospitality businesses, and in turn benefit the whole community.

“Many folks visit the town specifically for the water park but stay to eat and shop locally so the wider impact is very positive.”

Five new water attractions opening in the UK next year

  1. Therme Manchester will have 25 swimming pools, 25 water slides and an indoor beach.
  2. Modern Surf Manchester will be a surfing lagoon offering lessons to both beginners and experts.
  3. Chessington World of Adventures waterpark is set to have wave, infinity and spa pools as well as waterslides and cabanas.
  4. The Cove Resort, Southport is likely to have a water lagoon and a thermal spa with steam rooms and saunas.
  5. The Seahive, Deal plans to be the “surfing wellness resort” in the UK.

The park is clearly much-loved by members of the public, with an overall score of 4.3/5 on Google from thousands of reviews.

One reviewer wrote: “We had a lovely time slides were awesome wave pool really good outside hot pool amazing & view from pool beautiful.”

Another said: “We were able to ride all the slides multiple times without too much of a wait. The outdoor pools were heated and the view over the bay was lovely.”

A third added: “Brilliant place!! Great for the kids, or even adults. Plenty to do with the flumes wave machine, or relax in the outdoor pools under the stars with a cocktail.”

Further updates regarding a specific opening date are expected in due course.

Meanwhile, this 100-acre waterpark is also set to open with its own campsite.

And this English beach has plans to open its own brand new water attraction.
