Blow for Spurs as reported transfer target says he wants to be in the Champions League

Fulham midfielder Andreas Pereira, who is rumoured to be on Tottenham’s radar, has admitted that he wants to leave Craven Cottage this summer but is yet to decide on his next destination.

It has been widely reported that Tottenham are looking to strengthen in the middle of the park this summer and one of the names thought to be on the club’s wishlist is that of Pereira.

Earlier this month, Globo Esporte explained that Ange Postecoglou’s men have set their sights on the 28-year-old, who could be allowed to leave Fulham this summer.

It was alleged that Marco Silva had promised the Brazilain he would be allowed to leave, with Spurs, Aston Villa and Newcastle said to have expressed an interest in the player.

Pereira wants to join a Champions League club

Pereira is currently with the Selecao squad preparing for Copa America and he revealed that he will only sort out his future at the end of the tournament.

When asked about the speculation over his future, the attacking midfielder told Brazilian outlet Lance: “It’s difficult. I’m focused on the Copa América. I want to win a title with the national team.

“I’ve waited a long time to be here, so I’m enjoying the moment. Regarding my future, of course, I’m anxious, but I think I’ll leave it until after the Copa América is over and I’ll definitely let you know.

“I want to play in the Champions League. The biggest championships in football. I definitely have this as a goal in my head. Where it will be I haven’t decided yet.”

The fact that Tottenham are being linked with relatively low-cost attacking midfield options such as Pereira, Weston McKennie and Sebastian Szymanski is perhaps evidence that the club expect Lo Celso to depart and are looking for a squad player to replace the Argentine.
