Two arrested in Albany assault investigation
ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Two people from Albany have been arrested following an investigation into a stabbing last December, according to the Albany Police Department. Lamont Martin, 51, and Latika Smith, 46, are both facing multiple charges.
On December 11, 2023 around 9:30 p.m., police responded to Eagle Street and Morton Avenue in Albany following reports of a stabbing. The ensuing investigation determined that a victim had been stabbed multiple times in the leg during an altercation at a home on the 100 block of Dove Street. The victim was transported to Albany Medical Center to be treated for their injuries.
On Thursday, June 20 around 6:15 a.m., officers executed a search warrant at the Dove Street residence. As a result of the search, Martin, who had been identified as a suspect in the stabbing incident, was taken into custody. Smith was also arrested during the execution of the warrant.
Police report that a loaded .380 caliber handgun and a quantity of crack cocaine were located inside the home. The two now face the following charges:
Martin
- Second-degree assault,
- Second-degree criminal possession of a weapon
- Two counts of third-degree criminal possession of a weapon
- Third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance
- Fourth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance
- Two counts of second-degree criminally using drug paraphernalia
Smith
- Second-degree criminal possession of a weapon
- Third-degree criminal possession of a weapon
- Third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance
- Fourth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance
- Two counts of second-degree criminally using drug paraphernalia
Martin and Smith were both arraigned at the Albany City Criminal Court before being remanded to the Albany County Jail.
