Biden campaign raised $85M in May, entered June with $212M on hand

The Biden campaign raised $85 million in May and entered June with $212 on hand, a formidable war chest even as the Trump campaign significantly outraised them last month.

The Biden campaign touted the support of grassroots donors, noting May was its second strongest grassroots month to date, trailing March.

The campaign noted its email list grew by 3 million subscribers in May, and the month was the operation’s best with recurring donors thus far. The campaign also brought donations from individuals in all 50 states during May.

“Our strong and consistent fundraising program grew by millions of people in May, a clear sign of strong and growing enthusiasm for the President and Vice President every single month,” Biden campaign manager Julie Chavez Rodriguez said in a statement.

“The money we continue to raise matters, and it’s helping the campaign build out an operation that invests in reaching and winning the voters who will decide this election – a stark contrast to Trump’s PR stunts and photo-ops that he’s pretending is a campaign,” she continued. “From person-to-person organizing to a historic paid media campaign, we’re doing the work to reach and earn the votes needed to win in November.”

The Biden campaign’s massive war chest has allowed it to spend on multi-million-dollar ad campaigns, staff up in pivotal battleground states and specifically target voters in key demographics.

The Trump campaign has yet to publicize details on how much cash it has on hand, but the former president’s operation raised a staggering $141 million in May alongside the Republican National Committee (RNC), a total buoyed in part by a surge in donations after Trump was found guilty on 34 felony counts in New York.

Trump’s campaign outraised Biden’s in April, too, but it still was millions of dollars behind in terms of cash on hand.
Biden last week brought in $30 million for his reelection bid at a Hollywood event with George Clooney, Jimmy Kimmel, Julia Roberts and former President Barack Obama. It was the highest amount raised of any Democratic fundraiser in history, the campaign said.
