Joe Rodon is on the way out of Spurs this summer

It is clear that Rodon does not have a future at Tottenham, with the centre-back, who has a year left on his contract, looking nailed on to depart Hotspur Way this summer.

However, it is unclear at the moment where the Wales international will end up, with Leeds’ failure to win promotion coming as a blow to the Yorkshire club’s chances of securing the defender’s services on a permanent basis.

It was reported by Football.London recently that all three newly promoted clubs, Ipswich, Leicester and Southampton, have shown interest in Rodon while ‘a string of further Premier League clubs’ are also monitoring his situation.

Tottenham are thought to be demanding a fee of around £10m for the former Swansea man, who appears to be very much in demand (Football Insider).

Could Joe Rodon move to Serie A this summer?

McAvennie has now suggested that Rodon could follow in the footsteps of the likes of Lewis Ferguson by making a move to Italy this summer.

When asked if the Spurs man would choose to move to Serie A over returning to Elland Road, the pundit told Football Insider: “Of course, he will. Playing in the Championship compared to playing in Serie A, it’s miles apart.

“To go there and experience that change of lifestyle. You see guys like Lewis Ferguson go over there and they’re embracing it now more. These young players are loving the change of culture.

“I would think, if he has the chance, he’ll go abroad. He’s not going to get a game at Tottenham so he’s got to go and play elsewhere. But if teams in Serie A don’t want him, then Leeds have been a good team for him.”

Spurs Web Opinion

British centre-backs who have gone to Italy over recent years such as Chris Smalling and Fikayo Tomori have excelled and Rodon could certainly be a success in Serie A.

However, there is no indication at the moment that Italian clubs are after him and given the amount of interest he is generating in England, one would expect the defender to end up at a Premier League side.
