Trump cashes in on legal woes as GOP decimates Biden's massive fundraising lead

Donald Trump's trial and eventual conviction on dozens of felony counts in his hush money case didn't hamstring the former president's fundraising efforts, instead proving a boon for him and the party — and shrinking President Joe Biden's fundraising lead as the two head into a key first debate next week.

Trump’s presidential campaign, the Republican National Committee and an allied super PAC raised over $170 million in May, The Washington Post reported Thursday night.

That includes a massive haul following Trump’s felony conviction May 30 — the Trump campaign said it hauled in $53 million online in the 24 hours following his guilty verdict.

The main super PAC supporting Trump MAGA Inc. was reportedly flushed with $69 million last month and had $94 million in cash. That number notably included a $50 million donation from reclusive heir Timothy Mellon, which marked one of the largest ever disclosed single donations.

MAGA Inc. also received a $10 million bump from Richard and Elizabeth Uihlein, as well as $5 million from Kelcy Warren.

Meanwhile, Trump and the national committee raised about $106 million last month — much higher than in previous months — and ended with a combined $171 million in cash.

The GOP windfall took a chunk out of the Biden campaign’s once-massive fundraising lead. Now, the GOP reportedly plans to spend big on media buys through the summer.

The Biden campaign hasn't yet filed its report but said it raised $85 million last month. The president's team said it had $212 million in cash heading into June.
