To mark the supermarket’s birthday, as well as 200 years of Cadbury, Morrisons is selling the iconic Cadbury Freddo bar at its original price of just 10p.

The bite-size 18g Dairy Milk bars typically retail for 25p, but for a limited time the price will be reduced, allowing nostalgic customers to save a whopping 60% on the beloved chocolate treat.

The offer is available nationwide from June 21 to June 24.

The last time the chocolate bar was this price was 17 years ago.

Mike Kenny, confectionery buying manager at Morrisons, said: “We’re bringing back a sweet taste of nostalgia to celebrate our 125th anniversary and we’re thrilled to be able to offer everyone’s favourite Freddo bar for just 10p.

“The offer won’t be available for long, so customers will need to be quick at nabbing themselves a bar, or two, or three!”

During its birthday month, Morrisons has also organised other offers and activities for customers across the UK.

This includes the supermarket’s biggest-ever “Basket Bonus”, which allows loyalty customers to win points, bigger rewards and free products, with a chance to become a More Points Millionaire.

Morrisons is also launching a £1million charitable fund to enhance community spaces across the country and has special offers on its most loved products.

Sainsbury’s launched a similar deal in April, and Nectar card customers could buy Freddos for 10p.

Rachel Clark, director of grocery for Sainsbury’s said: “We’re delighted to be celebrating such an iconic moment for Cadbury and its milestone of 200 years as a loved chocolate brand.”

It is always best to do your own comparison to make sure you are getting the cheapest deal.

You may have seen Freddos go for 10p as part of different offers, or at your local corner shop, since their price officially increased.

You can use price comparion sites such as Google Shopping and Trolley.co.uk to compare prices across different retailers.

How to bag a bargain

SUN Savers Editor Lana Clements explains how to find a cut-price item and bag a bargain…

Sign up to loyalty schemes of the brands that you regularly shop with.

Big names regularly offer discounts or special lower prices for members, among other perks.

Sales are when you can pick up a real steal.

Retailers usually have periodic promotions that tie into payday at the end of the month or Bank Holiday weekends, so keep a lookout and shop when these deals are on.

Sign up to mailing lists and you’ll also be first to know of special offers. It can be worth following retailers on social media too.

When buying online, always do a search for money off codes or vouchers that you can use vouchercodes.co.uk and myvouchercodes.co.uk are just two sites that round up promotions by retailer.

Scanner apps are useful to have on your phone. Trolley.co.uk app has a scanner that you can use to compare prices on branded items when out shopping.

Bargain hunters can also use B&M’s scanner in the app to find discounts in-store before staff have marked them out.

And always check if you can get cashback before paying which in effect means you’ll get some of your money back or a discount on the item.

How have Freddo bars changed over the years?

Freddo bars – or Freddo Frogs, as they were originally called – were created in 1930 by the MacRobertson’s chocolate company.

In 1967, the chocolate bars became part of the Cadbury’s product range after MacRobertson’s were sold to the company.

The bars were originally released to the UK market in 1973 and had bright coloured wrapping of orange, yellow and blue before they were withdrawn from the market in 1979.

They were later relaunched in the UK 15 years later, in 1994.

In 2007, the price of a Freddo was hiked for the first time in 13 years to 15p.

Then in 2009, the wrapping underwent a redesign and featured a new, glossier Freddo design.

In 2017, there was widespread outrage when Freddos were hiked in price to 30p.

To appease Freddo fanatics, Cadbury’s briefly slashed the price to 25p.

But it now retails for far higher than this in most stores.

Other variations of the chocolate bar have been launched including having a cream or caramel centred flavouring.
