SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. (NEWS10)-- On Saturday, the Saratoga County Department of Health will host a free Narcan training and distribution event at Saratoga Springs High School. The training is from 10 a.m. to noon and will provide proper techniques for administering the nasal spray and how to identify someone suffering from an opioid overdose.

Participants will receive mental health and substance use resource guides, two Narcan rescue kits, and a certificate of training. The Narcan administration process takes roughly 10 minutes. Anyone unable to make the training can request a rescue kit on the Saratoga County website.

Also known as Naloxone, the life-saving medication is safe to use even when opioids like heroin, fentanyl, or prescription pain medications aren't present. The New York State Good Samaritan Law protects 911 callers who administer Narcan from the fear of being arrested if they or someone they know is experiencing a drug overdose.
