Shawnee County approves $977,000 worth of construction

TOPEKA (KSNT) - Summer is now officially here, and that means construction season is also in full swing. It's not just limited to the roads however.

On Thursday, Shawnee County Commissioners approved a project for Central Topeka in the parking lot for the Maner Conference Center, next to Stormont Vail Events Center.

The $240,566 project will focus on replacing only the degraded panels in the lot.

That construction start date is just around the corner, starting on July 1st and needs to wrap up on August 19th. It's a short turnaround for good reason.

“This is a strange time period, it’s 50 days, calendar days," Public Works Director Curt Niehaus said, "but we’re trying to work around large events at the Maner Conference Center and Heritage Hall.”

In addition to the parking lot, commissioners also approved a nearly $737,000 project for street and storm sewer updates with the same construction organization. That project is just south of Elmont in the Sterling Chase Subdivision No. 5.

A date for that project isn't set in stone.
