Tottenham are linked with Riccardo Calafiori

Calafiori won many admirers with his performances last season and the centre-back has made an impressive start to the Euros, playing a starring role in Italy’s win over Albania.

It has been widely reported in the Italian press over the last few months that Tottenham and Juventus are expected to battle it out for the 22-year-old’s services.

This was backed up earlier this week by DAZN (via Il Bianconero) who suggested that Spurs could make a substantial offer for the versatile defender and blow Juve out of the water.

Man City and Bayern also interested

The Athletic have now offered an update on Calafiori’s future, stating that Bologna do not wish to lose the young centre-back this summer.

It is explained that the Serie A side will demand a big fee for the Italy international if he is to depart as his former club, Basel, have a sell-on clause between 40 and 50 per cent.

Thiago Motta, who has left Bologna to take over as Juve’s new head coach, is keen for California to follow him to Turin.

However, the report makes it clear that the Bianconeri will have their work cut out as Bayern Munich have made ‘inquiries’ about the Italy international while Manchester City are also ‘curious’ about him.

Spurs Web Opinion

It is quite interesting to note that while most Italian outlets have named Tottenham as Juve’s main competitor for Calafiori’s signature, The Atheltic have not even mentioned Spurs as a contender.

Although the Lilywhites can outbid Juve and perhaps even Bayern, the Thiago Motta factor could be a major advantage for the Serie A giants.
