Report: Potential boost for Spurs as Juventus may not be able to afford 22-year-old

Calciomercato have now claimed that although Tottenham target Riccardo Calafiori wants to join Juventus, the Serie A giants may not be able to afford a deal for the centre-back.

Calafiori has emerged as one of the best young defenders in Italian football over the last 12 months.

If you have followed The Spurs Web’s coverage, you would know that a whole host of outlets have suggested that Tottenham are battling Juventus for the 22-year-old’s signature this summer.

This includes a recent update by DAZN (via Il Bianconero), which claimed that Spurs could move ahead of the Old Lady in the race by presenting a big offer for the defender.

Asking price too high for Juve?

CalcioMercato have now become the latest publication to offer an update on Spurs’ and Juve’s pursuit of Calafiori, stating that the Italy international wants to move to the Allianz Stadium this summer.

It is revealed that Juve technical director Cristiano Giuntoli’s idea was to secure the deal for €25m (£21m) but that fee will not be enough to clinch the deal.

Since Calafiori’s old club, Basel, have a 50 per cent sell clause, Bologna are demanding €40m (£33.7m) for the defender.

The report adds that Bologna are hoping that the centre-back continues to impress in the Euros, thus pushing his price up and leading to a potential bidding war.

Spurs Web Opinion

Calafiori would be perfect for Tottenham as he can cover for centre-back as well as left-back but it does not appear as if the youngster is too keen on leaving Serie A this summer.

This transfer saga could have a few more twists and turns over the coming weeks.
