I’m terrified of my bullying colleague
DEAR DEIDRE: A former colleague verbally attacked me and threatened to destroy me.
In front of the rest of the warehouse team he announced that if I didn’t get out of his way, I wouldn’t get up off the floor again.
He left the company that same day.
However, this week I discovered he has been reemployed. At the time of the attack, I filed a complaint, which wasn’t investigated when he left.
I’m now extremely worried and am experiencing anxiety about what he is going to do to me.
Unbelievably, he has been given a role on the same team again.
He has previously turned people against me and even launched an attack on social media. However, because he didn’t use my name, there was nothing I could do.
My boss isn’t helping me. What should I do?

DEIDRE SAYS: Please talk to your HR department and make them aware of your concerns. He was physically threatening and so it’s worrying that he has been given another job working with you.
Afterall, threatening behaviour or causing fear, is an offence.
So please ask HR whether they will investigate the original complaint and what they will be doing to protect you.
You would also be wise to keep a record of all incidences of abuse, including dates, times, who was there, and what was said as you may need these at a later date.
You can find support through Acas, who give independent advice on workplace issues.
I’ve also attached my support pack on bullying.
