Canada, after designating Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist organization, has urged its citizens to avoid traveling to Iran and to leave the country immediately if they are already there.

Melanie Joly, Canada’s Foreign Minister, stated on Wednesday, June 19, “Those who are currently in Iran, it is time to come home.”

The previous day, Dominic LeBlanc, Canada’s Minister of Public Safety, announced at a press conference that the Canadian government had decided to designate the IRGC as a “terrorist organization.”

It is worth mentioning that this action by Canada has led to reactions from Iranian officials.

Nasser Kanaani, the spokesperson for Iran’s Foreign Ministry, described labeling the IRGC as a “terrorist organization” as a “political, unconventional, and unwise” move.

Condemning Canada’s action, he added, “This ill-considered decision by the Canadian government is a hostile move that contradicts accepted principles of international law, including the equality of sovereign states and non-interference in the internal affairs of states, and it constitutes an affront to Iran’s national sovereignty.”
