6/19/24: One More Real Hot & Humid Day
Latest Forecast Update from Meteorologists Steve Caporizzo & Rob Lindenmuth:
Another very hot afternoon today with air temperatures reaching the low to mid 90s for most, just tying the record high in Albany of 94 degrees, but we did break a record high minimum temperature from overnight, only falling to 76 degrees this morning.
The heat index was the other story today. With many seeing dewpoint temperatures in the mid 70s, it made it feel even hotter than Tuesday with many feeling between 100° to 108°. Unfortunately we do have one more very hot and very humid day to get through on Thursday with scattered storms into the afternoon and evening.
We are expecting one more scorching afternoon for Thursday with high heat and humidity just as high as the last few days.
A strong cold front to our west will be approaching through Thursday afternoon and evening. This will likely spark a few thunderstorms, some of which could be locally strong to severe with torrential rain and damaging winds being our main concerns. Storm Prediction Center does have the entire area under a slight risk for these strong storms. Again, this does not mean that everyone will see these storms, just that the potential is there for any storm that does develop, it could easily turn severe.
As a cold front sags southward into the eat of the afternoon on Thursday, scattered showers and storms will begin to develop. Temperatures will be warm again, with highs likely in the low to mid 90s. Heat index temperatures will once again be in the upper 90s and low 100s.
This front will get hung up across the northeast into the afternoon on Friday. With less heat at play, but still remaining very humid. This could spark a few more storms to develop into the afternoon and evening, again, some of these could turn locally strong to severe with heavy rain, frequent lightning and gusty winds.
Temperatures will take a little step back on Saturday, however, the humidity will remain on the high side with scattered showers and storms. This is as a warm front pushes through the area which will turn us warmer again for Sunday with highs in the upper 80s to near 90, however, we will once again run the risk for a few thunderstorms into the afternoon and evening. A few showers possible on Monday, still relatively warm and humid. Behind the showers on Monday the humidity will finally break for a short time into the middle of next week, but it will remain hot with highs in the upper 80s and low 90s. Have a great night, stay cool! -Cap & Rob
