Another lagoon project is headed to the Austin area — can developers make this one work?

AUSTIN (ABJ) — Developers announced this month that a crystal lagoon is headed to the Austin area — and officials expressed optimism that this project will get off the ground unlike other projects throughout Texas, including one in Leander.

Miami-based Crystal Lagoons US Corp. on June 12 announced it has licensed its technology to Austin Real Estate Ventures LLC to build a 3-acre crystalline lagoon at the Ascensions on Lake Travis master-planned community at 25904 Haynie Flat Road in Spicewood, about 35 miles northwest of Austin.

The high-end development is planned to include luxury residential units, retail boutiques, restaurants, areas for concerts and events and a hotel development that will have the lagoon as its centerpiece, according to an announcement. The lagoon is part of the company's public access lagoon project, meaning it will be open to ticketed entry, with officials pinning the cost starting at between $25 and $40, officials said.
