Startling discovery: Brooklyn man awoke to find snake in bathtub

MIDWOOD, Brooklyn (PIX11) -- A Brooklyn man will now add a new step to his morning routine after a startling discovery in his bathtub Wednesday morning: checking for snakes.

The Midwood resident shared a picture of the at least 2-foot-long corn snake that somehow got into his bathtub overnight.

Half-awake and hardly believing what was happening, he told PIX11 News how he tried to grab it with nearby scissors and flush it down the toilet. The snake jumped away and lightly bit his hand, just barely breaking the skin.

The terrified man didn't realize it at the time but corn snakes are not poisonous -- in fact, they are generally seen as beneficial to humans because they hunt small rodents that damage crops and spread disease.
