Golden girl Heidi Stoute made a big splash in Mexico when she secured Barbados’ lone medal, a gold, on day one of the Central American and Caribbean Amateur Swimming Confederation (CCCAN) Competition on Monday night.

And the in-form Stoute continued her impressive showing when she touched the wall in a leading time of 9:17.32 in the Girls’ 13-14 division of the 800-metre freestyle race.

A student of St Winifred’s School, Stoute is also expected to compete in the 200 metres freestyle followed by the 50-, 100- and 400-metre freestyle races on the following days.

She currently holds the long-course records for the Barbados Aquatic Sports Association (BASA) in the 50, 100, and 800 metres with times of 26.91 and 57.52 seconds, and 9:11.81 minutes, respectively, as well as the short- course record, which she set in April at the Rodney Heights Aquatic Championship Invitational Swim Meet in St Lucia (17:32.52) for the 1 500-metre freestyle.
