My 2-ingredient DIY eyelash serum works wonders – they were so long & thick, people asked if I was wearing falsies
IF you’ve tried everything to grow your lashes, this DIY solution may be for you.
One woman revealed the homemade hack she uses for long thick eyelashes.
A Reddit user revealed the two items she swears by for promoting lash growth (stock image)[/caption]In a Reddit post, user Suncica_ shared the two ingredients that gave her quick results.
The original poster credited the DIY beauty trick with making her lashes look like falsies.
“I used this last year and my eyelashes were huge,” the social media user explained.
She explained that she decided to create her own lash growth serum after seeing little results with store-bought options.
“First, I bought some cheap empty mascara bottles from AliExpress, they are about 50 cents,” she said.
“I filled the bottle about 3/4 with castor oil, and filled the remaining 1/4 with vitamin E oil.”
Health expert Dr. Marisa Garshick spoke to CNN about the potential role of castor oil in boosting hair growth.
“Castor oil contains ricinoleic acid, a type of fatty acid, which may boost circulation in the scalp and subsequently promote healthier and stronger hair,” the professional said.
However, the doctor added that no research has confirmed the hair growth benefits of the ingredient.
Medical News Today reported on the effect of vitamin E oil on hair growth.
Unlike castor oil, they cited confirmed research that the vitamin helps prevent hair loss.
A study by the National Library of Medicine showed that one of the components of vitamin E oil helped to improve thinning more significantly than the placebo.
The poster heaped on the praise for the homemade mixture, saying it gave her results within weeks.
“I have noticed a huge difference after just two weeks,” she explained.
“After one month my eyelashes were extremely long and very thick.”
What causes hair loss?
Alexander Armand is a celebrity hairstylist and the creator of hair loss oil Flourish by Alexander Armand.
“Some common causes for hair loss include stress, alopecia, hereditary hair loss, chemical treatments, high tension hairstyles, diet, and certain medications,” Armand told The U.S. Sun.
“Androgenetic Alopecia which is also known as pattern baldness, is the most common cause of hair loss and is a genetic condition that causes hair thinning on the crown and top of the head in women, and thinning and receding hairlines in men.
“Telogen Effluvium is the technical term for a temporary form of hair loss that occurs when a large number of hair follicles enter the resting (telogen) phase due to stress, illness, surgery, childbirth, or major life changes.
“Hair typically grows back within a few months.
“Alopecia Areata is another form of alopecia that is an autoimmune condition where the immune system attacks hair follicles, causing hair loss in patches.
“The severity varies, some people may lose all hair while others may experience regrowth.
“When it relates to your diet, deficiencies in nutrients such as iron, vitamin D, biotin, zinc, and protein can contribute to hair loss.
“Traction alopecia can occur due to tight hairstyles like ponytails, braids, or buns that put stress on the hair follicles.
“Excessive heat styling or chemical treatments can also damage hair.
“Also, certain medications, like chemotherapy drugs, blood thinners, and some antidepressants, can cause hair loss as a side effect.”
She added that the solution made her bottom lashes almost too long for her liking.
“Multiple people have asked me if I’m wearing false eyelashes,” she said.
Reddit users shared their thoughts on the recipe in the comments section.
“I’ve done this too, it really did make a dramatic difference,” wrote one reader.
“[I’m] definitely going to give this a try,” said another convinced person.
