‘Leave it at that!’ says Carol Kirkwood as she shuts down BBC Breakfast co-star in awkward exchange
BBC Breakfast’s Carol Kirkwood shut down her co-star in the news studio following an awkward interaction.
The adored forecaster, 62, has been a regular on the programme since 1997.
However, she was forced to share disappointing news to her co-star, host Jon Kay, 54, right after her weather segment.
The moment came after Carol shared good news with viewers, Jon and co-host Sally Nugent.
After downpours of rain in some areas, the presenter revealed drier days are on the way, with temperatures rising to 23C in London on Sunday and 24C on Monday and Tuesday.
Meanwhile, other parts of the UK such as Cardiff, as Carol explained, could see sunny days of 25C.
For later on in the week, it was suggested some Brits could see temperatures “a little bit higher than that”.
The prospect of sunny weather clearly excited Jon, but his hopes went up just a little too much.
He asked if the sunny days were here to stay, not realising he was jumping the gun.
Jon said: “Okay, I mean that looks lovely, doesn’t it? Perfect for lots of people. Does this look like it’s the beginning of a prolonged drier spell?”
After an awkward moment of silence, Carol replied: “Not necessarily…” before she burst out laughing.
The penny soon dropped as Jon replied: “Okay, right”.
She added quickly: “Let’s leave it at that for now, shall we?”.
Despite the setback, it was clear Jon saw the funny side as he couldn’t help laughing, along with Sally.
The star quipped: “Service with a smile. I’ll take that as an absolute ‘no it’s not’.”
It comes as Carol was flooded with support from fans after a sharing social media post.
