VIDEO: Police officers chase 'very fast and strong' piglet through California streets
(KRON) – A piglet was reunited with its family by a California police department after the animal was found roaming the streets last week.
Police began receiving reports of the piglet running in and out of the roadway in the city of Sebastapol at around 1:40 p.m. Thursday. Officers were dispatched to the area shortly afterward, though they somewhat underestimated the evasive abilities of the pig, the Sebastapol Police Department indicated.
"Officers arrived and located the described piglet who … proved to be very fast and strong for an animal of its size," the department wrote on Facebook.
Video shared by police also shows the pig darting across a parking lot, down a street, and even under a car as officers and a local resident give chase.
"C'mon, man," one of the seemingly exasperated officers can be heard saying to the pig at one point.
Bystanders helped police chase the little pig across "multiple city blocks," according to the department. The pig was eventually captured in a yard and "taken into custody," police said.
The pig, named "Pickles," was ultimately reunited with his owner.
"Officers … elected *not* to charge 'Pickles' with 148(a)(1) PC - (Resisting a peace officer)," the Sebastapol police joked on Facebook. "Instead, we felt it was beneficial to just admonish 'Pickles' for running from officers!"
A woman claiming to be Pickles owner, in a Facebook message, also thanked police and bystanders for helping to bring her pet to safety. Other users, meanwhile, just thanked the police for sharing the silly video.
"This is the real reason all police should have body cams," one viewer wrote.
