Phoenix Criteria for Pediatric Sepsis and Septic Shock

To the Editor We read Dr Sanchez-Pinto and colleagues’ study with interest, but we are concerned that the final Phoenix 4-organ model does not include acute kidney injury (AKI) assessment. Additionally, the Phoenix 8-organ model used only a single serum creatinine threshold. Despite inclusion of data from low- and middle-income countries, these shortcomings void the clinical utility of these criteria and perpetuate the neglect of children living in these settings.
