Scott firehouse to expand, upgrade with $1M in state funding
SCOTT, La. (KLFY) -- The Scott Fire Department's newest fire station is being expanded and upgraded, thanks to $1 million in state money, authorities said.
The fire station at 320 Rue Bon Secours in Scott will be getting sleeping quarters and other improvements, according to Scott Fire Chief Chad Sonnier. The station, which has been in service since January 2022, has been available only for daytime use.
"During nighttime incidents, volunteer members are forced to leave their homes, travel to Station 53 to obtain the required resources, then travel to the emergency incident," Sonnier said. "This drastic increase in response time decreases the chances of a successful rescue and increases the chances of firefighter injury."
In addition to sleeping quarters, the newly renovated station will house a generator and EOC/training room to remain functional during disasters, Sonnier said.
The station was originally a large fabrication shop that the city bought in 2021 and converted into the daytime fire facility.
The remodel is made possible by $1 million in state funding earmarked in the latest legislative session, Sonnier said.
