6/18/2024: The heat wave settles in

The latest Storm Tracker Forecast from meteorologist Matt Mackie:

High pressure keeps us mostly sunny for most of the day, allowing temperatures to surge. At the same time, humidity is on the rise...

Highs in the mid 90's will end up feeling like the triple digits in terms of that heat index value. A heat advisory is in effect for the entire News10 area from noon today through 8 PM Thursday. While we can't rule out a couple isolated pop up thunderstorms this afternoon, most stay dry.

Tonight, temperatures again struggle to cool very much. The majority of our area will not fall below the 70 degree mark, with muggy conditions in place.

Tomorrow looks like another scorcher for Juneteenth. We will likely break the days record high (94) with our forecast of 97. Again, the humidity will make it feel like 100 or higher during the heat of the day.

One more triple digit heat index day on Thursday, but then a slight bit of relief later in the forecast. As daily shower and storm chances inch upwards, temperatures come down somewhat.

Friday will still be hot with highs near 90 - but a bit less intense. The weekend will feature temps that peak in the upper 80's. Expect mid 80's with slightly more substantial rain chances for Monday.
