An Arsenal insider has revealed that Mikel Arteta does not want to bring rumoured Tottenham target Ivan Toney to the Emirates as he does not like the striker’s personality.
Should Tottenham move for Ivan Toney this summer?
Toney has been mooted as one of the strikers on Ange Postecoglou’s radar this summer, with the Australian thought to be intent on adding more firepower to his frontline.
It was suggested by Football Transfers earlier this month that Tottenham do not have to worry about competition from Arsenal for the Brentford star’s signature as the Gunners had cooled their interest in the player and were now focusing on other alternatives.
It was explained that West Ham United are Spurs’ main competitor for the England international, with the report backing the Lilywhites to submit an offer of £40m for the player.
It looks unlikely that such an offer would be enough, with some sources suggesting that Thomas Franks’ men are demanding £60m for the centre-forward even though he has just one year left on his deal (talkSPORT).
Arsenal do not like Ivan Toney’s personality
It has now emerged that Arteta had met with the 28-year-old and decided that his personality was not a good fit for his side.
An anonymous Arsenal insider, who breaks news about the club on the handle Team News and Ticks, said on journalist Charles Watts’ YouTube channel about Toney: “They (Arsenal) don’t like him. They met him and didn’t like him.
“When he signed with his agency in August last year, they said ‘what do you want,’ he said ‘get back playing, get back in the England squad and move to a big club, preferably Arsenal’.
“He saw himself fitting in as the No.9, he thought he would get tons of goals and he thought he’d suit the system. They met him and they purely didn’t like him.
“With Toney, there’s just stacks of evidence of a personality that you’d imagine Arteta didn’t want around the squad.”

We know that Ange also puts a lot of emphasis on the personality and attitude of transfer targets, with the Australian keen to maintain a family feel in the Tottenham dressing room.
If Arteta had been put off by Toney’s personality, it is quite possible that Ange might be too.
