The 29-year-old – who stars as the all grown up Stephen Carmichael – thinks it’s ‘unlikely’ the show will be given another outing.

Speaking to Digital Spy, he explained: “I don’t know how much I can say on this, but I will say it’s been a bad time.”

Layton continued: “Sometimes, all good things must come to an end.

“We usually film in the summer. I’m a little bit busy, so you can probably connect the dots.”

Strictly star Layton concluded: “I will look back on Bad Education memories so fondly.

“I feel so lucky that I got to revisit that show for a couple of years and put my own spin on it and lead a company.”

The original Bad Education ran between 2012 and 2014 before it was axed by the Beeb after three series.

After a special reunion episode to mark the show’s tenth anniversary in 2022, bosses commissioned a fourth series.

The comedy returned to BBC One for its fifth series last December.

Comedian Jack Whitehall was part of the original lineup for the show, playing incompetent history teacher Alfie Wickers.
