Extreme heat in Mecca claims lives of 14 Jordanian pilgrims

The Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that 14 of its pilgrims have died due to the extreme heat in Saudi Arabia, and 17 others are missing.

On Sunday, June 16, the ministry released a statement attributing the cause of death of these pilgrims to the intense heat.

Earlier, the Saudi Ministry of Health had warned about temperatures rising to 47 degrees Celsius.

According to reports, 1.8 million pilgrims participated in this year’s Hajj, which concludes this Wednesday.

It is noteworthy that crowd congestion, tent fires, heat, and other factors are cited as the main reasons for pilgrims’ deaths in Saudi Arabia.

Previously, in the deadliest incident for pilgrims in recent decades, 2,070 pilgrims lost their lives in 2015 due to crowd congestion and poor management.

Meanwhile, the Afghan pilgrims in Mecca face extreme heat, with temperatures reaching 47°C. Despite the challenges, they remain committed to their spiritual journey, taking extra precautions to avoid heat-related illnesses.
