Police: Naked man punches officer in south Columbus
COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) -- A man is jailed Monday after he allegedly punched a Columbus police officer in the face.
According to court documents, Dasean Barnes, 35, of Lebanon, Ohio, is charged with one count of assault on a police officer.
At approximately 6:41 a.m., Columbus police responded to a call of a naked man walking in the area of South High Street and Sycamore Street. When officers arrived, they saw the suspect, identified as Barnes, wearing a pair of loose-fitting cargo shorts that kept falling down, according to court records.
When officers attempted to take custody of Barnes, he allegedly ran from the scene. During the chase, Barnes punched a Columbus police officer once on the left side of his face, causing damage to the officer's eye, court records state.
Barnes was arrested and taken to Franklin County Jail for processing. He is scheduled to appear in Franklin County court on Tuesday.
The officer remains at a local hospital. According to the city's police union, the Fraternal Order of Police, the officer may require surgery.
