Village of Hamburg hires engineering team following residential flooding

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – The Hamburg Village Board passed a motion at their village board meeting Monday night to hire a local engineering team to conduct a drainage study following recent residential flooding.

The motion follows Hamburg residents voicing their concerns at the village’s last board meeting in early June, with some saying the flooding from recent rain storms cost them thousands of dollars.

The drainage study will be conducted in the Charlotte Avenue area.

“We're trying to analyze whether it's a public situation or private," Village of Hamburg Mayor Thomas Tallman said. "We're trying to analyze what we find, and then we'll advise the residents on what we might be able to do, or they may be able to do to make it less likely to happen again."

Village resident Judy Hosie said the water doesn't drain for weeks at a time. 

“Well they've got to come up with something,” Hosie said. “It's not our fault, at this point, it's their fault. It's something in the system some place that's not working right.”

Tallman said he hopes to have answers in the next month or two. 

The public works superintendent told News 4 that the village is currently in the process of collecting data for the engineering team.
