Babar Azam ‘Doesn’t Deserve Place’ in Pakistan Team, let alone captaincy- Virendra Sehwag

There were signs of the issue since the early stages when Pakistan entered the T20 World Cup. Not-so-impressive display against Ireland and England in two T20 series made it look clear that Pakistan’s form in the T20 was not up-to the mark. Still, Pakistan has the habit of putting out a surprise when others least expect it- like at the 2022 T20 World Cup. However, this time, it was different. Pakistan team was shocked in their first match against the debutants USA followed by a loss to India.

In the third match, they beat Canada but in fourth match. Though they managed to win by three wickets, Pakistan team was put in a massive shock as they went seven down in chase of 107.

Babar Azam stood his ground on 32 off 34. On this display, Indian cricketer Virendra Sehwag said that if a new captain is assigned for the Pakistan’s T20 team, Babar Azam does not deserve a place in there.

“Babar Azam is not a player who will hit sixes. He only hits sixes when he is set and spinners are operating. I have never seen his use his feet against fast bowlers or hitting sixes over the covers; its not his game as he plays safe cricket by hitting down the ground,” Sehwag told cricbuzz.

“But as a leader you have to think whehter this game is useful for the team. If not, then demote yourself and send someone who can play big shots in the six overs and get the team 50-60 runs. I may sound harsh, but if the captain changes, Babar doesn’t deserve a place in the T20 team. His performance and strike-rate are not as per the demand of today’s T20 cricket.”
