Rare Ford that Wheeler Dealers star Mike Brewer once bought for under £5k could now be worth an eye-watering price
A RARE Ford motor that was once bought by Wheeler Dealers star Mike Brewer for under £5,000 is now worth an eye-watering price.
The Classic Ford Sierra Cosworth from the ’90s is now being sold at an online car auction for a whopping £79,995.
During an episode shot for the Motor show in 2010, Mike picked up a 1991 Ford Sierra Cosworth 4×4 in Magenta Red.
The model was “designed and built to win races” but became an all-time great road car after gaining a cult following.
Back in the 1980s, Ford began working on a car to enter into Group A races, the category that includes rallying and touring car events.
At the time, FIA regulations demanded that 5,000 roadgoing examples of a car be made before it was allowed to enter.
To this end, the American brand created what EVO named “the most iconic fast Ford ever” – the Sierra Cosworth.
Affectionately known as the “Cossie”, the model almost never made it onto UK roads.
According to How Rare Is My Car, only 2,672 left in the UK based on DVLA data.
And in today’s market, the classic motor is worth a lot more than what it was first sold for.
Original Cosworth RS500s, which are from a special batch tuned by Aston Martin in 1987, have sold for over £50,000.
The Ford Sierra Sapphire RS Cosworth on offer is understood to be the one bought during the shoot of Wheeler Dealers.
And it is one of the finest examples to exist today – having just one previous owner from Leicester.
With 13,885 miles on the clock, the asking price for the iconic car has now hit almost £80,000.
The listing reads: “This is one of the finest examples out there on the road today, A third generation Sierra Rs Cosworth with four-wheel drive, First talked about in 1987 however it never came to production until 1990.”
Other versions, though, can be found for bargain prices online.
For example, the second-generation model, the Cosworth Sapphire, is often much cheaper than its predecessor.
One listing on Car & Classic offered a 1989 Sapphire with just 52,405 miles on it at £8,100.
It comes after an iconic 1980s hatchback that’s loved by petrolheads and once bought by Mike Brewer is now worth much, much more.
In 2005 for an episode of the show, Mike picked up a gorgeous Lancia Delta HF Integrale 8v from 1989 for just £2,300.
The 80s hot hatchback is a cult favourite among car fanatics, not least because of its rallying heritage which saw the motor dominate the World Rally Championship in the late 80s and early 90s.
Today, the little Italian motor is a hot property and very much sought after by collectors – making them worth serious sums of money.
Fans of this iconic motor might be pleased to know that Lancia has recently revealed plans to release a brand new hot hatchback – their first in decades – but only as an EV.
And elsewhere, a car dealer has revealed how he will double his money on a grubby second-hand Mini he bought for just £300.
